arma, arma 2, operation arrowhead, dlc,

Shattered Horizon's Weapons DLC pack called Firepower launches (see what I did there?) today. Futuremark pointed out something interesting in an email to me this morning:

There is an interesting clash of approaches this week for PC gamers. Yesterday saw the release of MW2’s simple map pack for a staggering $14.99, while today sees the release of Shattered Horizon’s Firepower weapons pack for free. Big publisher and indie developer, both expanding their multiplayer games but going about it in very different ways.

We believe that charging for multiplayer content is the wrong way to treat players who have already invested hundreds of hours into a game’s community. Not only is our DLC free, but for the next week we have decided to sell the complete Shattered Horizon game for just $14.99, the same price as MW2’s map pack alone.

The new weapons in the Firepower pack are: Railgun, Machinegun, Assault Rifle, SMG, Shotgun, Pistol, Grenade Pistol and Moon Mining Pick. Three new grenades have also been added: Flare, Pulse and Decoy. Images and further details of all the new weapons can be found at http://shatteredhorizon.com/details/zerogravitycombat/

shattered horizon, dlc,

I played through the DLC the other day and quite enjoyed it. It was frantic mayhem and intense the whole way though. One thing I really noticed about the campaign was that it evoked a feeling from the original Left 4 Dead more than anything else. The dark areas, the storm, even the music felt more like it was from the first game than the second. If Left 4 Dead is 28 Days Later, then Left 4 Dead 2 is Zombieland. Both are excellent films, but sometimes you just want to be scared shitless.

left 4 dead 2, dlc, the passing,

Wow! My jaw dropped when I saw this FLIR demonstration. It's not balls to walls action or anything but holy shit is this just fucking cool tech. Can't wait for this standalone expansion pack to be released.

For more information about the game check out the main page.

arma 2, operation arrowhead, dlc, arma,

I'm not holding my breath though.

So enough worlds colliding, when is "The Passing" coming out? Well... if it was coming out next week we would say right here - Left 4 Dead 2's The Passing is coming out next week and we will be updating the blog next week with more news on the release. There you go.

left 4 dead, the passing, dlc, valve time,

GTA IV has been patched. Most noticeably the Rockstar Social Club app was removed, you still have to click play, but it won't be running in the background anymore. Yay! Also, shadows have been fixed and no longer look all cross-hatchy.

In addition to the patch, the DLC has been released on GFWL and Steam for the PC. I wasn't a huge fan of the base game, I didn't really like Niko much and it just seemed so fucking long. But I'm really enjoying The Lost and The Damned so far.

gta iv, patch, dlc, steam,

The end of March is upon us, and it looks like Left 4 Dead 2's DLC will be delayed, according to Shacknews.

The Passing sees Left 4 Dead 2's survivors meeting up with the original Left 4 Dead cast--three of them, anyway. New golf club and M60 weapons will be added as well as multiple new game modes, a new 'Fallen Survivor' special infected and a 'Witch Bride.'

Meanwhile, there are plenty of really awesome custom campaigns you can download and play. I've played 2 evil eyes, Fort Noesis and an unfinished campaign set in a jail. They're all of excellent quality and a lot of fun to play though. 2 evil eyes was a bit of a miss-mash of things from the official campaigns though.
