In an interview with MCV Microsoft states that they should be the leader in the PC platform and have other companies look at them as a model to follow. They claim that Fable III, Flight, and Age of Empires Online represent an investment in the platform. Shocking statement, considering that hardly anyone plays first person shooters on the PC any more.

“There’s been a fair bit of criticism aimed at Microsoft that we were spending a lot of our focus on console, and we need to be putting resources behind PC as well,” Microsoft Games Studios’ general manager Dave Luehmann told MCV in an interview.

“Other companies should look to Microsoft for leadership, but I’m not sure they do. It is our job to lead the way on PC. And in some ways we are doing that and in other ways we are not. So we need to step up.

“We are putting some real investment and big IPs behind the Windows platform. We’ve spoken of the first three, Fable III, Age of Empires Online and Microsoft Flight. However we are not going to stop there.”

“I think it is the responsibility of first parties to push the business models in to new directions. We will test some ideas – some will work and some won’t.”

microsoft, bullshit,

News coming out of Gamescon is that Microsoft's commitment to PC gaming is completely renewed! Yeah, I've heard that song and dance before. It seems every year Microsoft comes around and says that they're going to refocus on the PC, that the PC will be their new development?

Remember when they were really going to make LIVE a viable platform on the PC? And now they're spouting some bullshit about reinvigorating some of their best franchises such as Age of Empires and Flight Simulator.

Oh wait, those are the two franchises that they totalled cancelled, and fired the teams working on them.

A Rant

God, where to begin.....

The announcement at PAX East that Penny Arcade Adventures Episodes 3 and 4 have been canceled is sad and rage inducing. It would have been nice to say this about 6 months ago, or when Khoo said there would be news at PAX and made it sound like a positive development. Hothead abandoned the game probably because EA threw bags of money at them and sacrificed PAA for Deathspank. That last part is my opinion, but the link makes it sound that way.

Kasumi gets delayed to late in the day on PC because MS can't get their act together on Live. My thoughts can be be summed up in my post in the PA ME2 thread - "So remember kids, not only is GFWL not very good for PC gaming, Live as a whole now prevents you from getting content on time regardless of platform." We all know that if there was a problem with pushing some content out on the PC, no one would hold up the release for the console version if it was fine.

On the Ubisoft front, our Aussie friends have been having trouble playing their legitimately bought copies of Settlers 7. Big surprise there. Oh, also someone perfected the AC2 crack into an emulated server solution.

I guess that's it for now.....
